Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), managed by Accor Hospitality and jointly owned by Emaar Properties PJSC Dubai and Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd., has won the prestigious National Tourism Award for the year 2007-08 in the category, ‘Best Convention Centre’, for the second consecutive time. The Union Home Minister, Shri. P. Chidambaram presented fifty-two National Tourism Awards in the presence of Smt. Ambika Soni, Minister of Tourism & Culture and Smt. Kanti Singh, Minister of State for Tourism & Culture on February 24, 2009.
HICC opened in January 2006 with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event. Since then, it has attracted several prestigious events of national and international significance with delegate strength ranging from 6 to 6000. It has made significant inroads into the international MICE segment in the last couple of years winning bids to host some prominent international meetings including International Congress and Convention Association’s annual conclave in 2010, International Mathematics Congress 2010, etc. The centre has been working closely with the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation to promote MICE in the city.
Mr. Phillip Logan, General Manager, HICC says, “This recognition comes at the right time as we are all set to hone our focus on the international segment. We are confident that this award will further augment our efforts to market the city of Hyderabad and subsequently the country as a lucrative MICE option.”
Some of the prominent events hosted at Hyderabad International Convention Centre include – Asian Development Bank’s 39th AGM in 2006, International Astronautical Congress in 2007, Bancon 2006, Pacific Asia Travel Association Travel Mart 2008, Internet Governance Forum 2008, Asia Pacific Seed Association 2008, International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2007, Suntec Days in 2007, 2008 and 2009, Bioasia in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive & Sexual Health in 2007, etc.
