Mumbai selected as Host City & CSIA selected as Host Airport for Routes Asia 2013

Mumbai will play the host city and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) the host airport for Routes Asia 2013. It is expected to bring a number of visitors to Mumbai from the airline, airport and tourism industry to discuss and explore the opportunities for airline route development.

“We at MIAL are pleased to note that CSIA has been selected as the host airport for Routes Asia 2013,” said Mr. GV Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) and Vice Chairman GVK, “This is noteworthy because besides being one of the busiest airports in South Asia, CSIA has also emerged as one of the most significant aviation hubs in the region given both the increase in passenger traffic and number of carriers flying to Mumbai. While Mumbai itself is undoubtedly a critical business hub for the region and key to the regional strategy of leading corporates, this status will be further enhanced upon the completion of the state-of-the-art integrated passenger terminal T2 in 2013. The choice of CSIA as a host airport also helps to reinforce its position as India’s foremost airport at the cutting edge of comfort, technology and design.”

“We are glad that CSIA has been selected to serve as the host for the Asia Route Development Forum in 2013,” said Mr. Rajeev Jain, CEO, Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Limited (MIAL). “Hosting Routes Asia 2013 will not only give us the opportunity to showcase CSIA to a diverse group of industry professionals across the globe but also provide tremendous tourism-related economic benefits to the city of Mumbai. Additionally it will enable us to share relevant expertise and build relationships with industry partner including airlines.”

Traditionally Routes Asia as an event has been attended by leading airports and airlines. Being chosen as a host is an opportunity to showcase the economic, industrial, and tourism potential of the host city and its airport. Additionally, Routes Asia also offers an opportunity within a short period of time to conduct a number of one-to-one meetings between airports and airlines from Asia. Over 17 years of its existence, Routes has acquired a well deserved reputation and has proved its claim of being the main aviation event in Asia helping make connections between airlines and airports.

CSIA is a standing participant of the Route Development Forum (World & Asia). With a total of 48 international passenger airlines, and 7 domestic passenger airlines currently operating more than 680 flights a day while directly linking Mumbai to 83 airports in India and worldwide, CSIA offers unmatched connectivity. This coupled with CSIA’s handling efficiency over the last five years and the extremely challenging environment it operates in has made it one of the most important emerging aviation hubs in India and the Asia Pacific Region.

“We are delighted to bring Routes Asia to India once again as the Indian market is a key strategic focus for the Routes business, “ explained David Stroud, executive Vice President Airports, Routes. Stroud continued “We have worked with the GVK team for many years on their presence at our events. It is fantastic that we are now able to bring our 11th Routes Asia event to Mumbai in 2013.”

Over the years, MIAL has also been credited with many awards and accolades, some of which are listed below:
– Voted the ‘Best Airport in Public-Private Partnership’ for two consecutive years (2007 & 2008) by the Air Passengers Association of India (APAI)

– CSIA has been declared the winner for having followed the ASQ guidelines regarding the representativity of the Sampling most closely.

Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL) is a joint venture between the GVK led consortium and Airports Authority of India. MIAL was awarded the mandate of modernizing, upgrading and expanding Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) in May 2006. CSIA catered to 29.07 million passengers with a growth rate of 14% and 670,235 tonnes of cargo which grew at the rate of 15% for FY 2010-11.

MIAL’s vision is to transform CSIA into one of the world’s best airports that consistently delights customers and to be the pride of Mumbai.
