The MoU between UBM Malaysia and MITEC’s management company, Prisma Galeri Sdn. Bhd. (PGSB), will see the Venue hosting four of UBM renowned events from 2019 to 2023 and a biennial event from 2019 to 2028.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) is prominently growing the country’s business events industry as the facility successfully locks down a five-year agreement with United Business Media (M) Sdn Bhd (UBM Malaysia).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which is established between UBM Malaysia and MITEC’s management company, Prisma Galeri Sdn. Bhd. (PGSB), will see the Venue hosting four of UBM renowned events from 2019 to 2023 and a biennial event from 2019 to 2028.

The signing ceremony which took place in MITEC saw Gunther Beissel, Chief Executive Officer of MITEC and M. Gandhi, Group Managing Director (ASEAN Business) & Senior Vice President of UBM Asia officially sealing the deal with Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, Chairman of PGSB, Stephen A. Carter, Chief Executive Officer of Informa PLC and Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Chairman of Malaysia Exhibition Services as witnesses to the momentous event.

Beissel expressed, “We are very pleased and honoured to be the Venue of choice for UBM’s business events exhibitions. It is a great achievement for a venue that is just a year into business”.

He continued, “This agreement showcases that MITEC is not just a venue provider but a long-term business partner who creates opportunities for continuous growth and stakeholders’ sustainability. This fruitful partnership is estimated to generate RM261.2 economic impact, which I believe, represents both brands’ firm commitment in setting benchmarks for Malaysia’s business events industry”.

As a global brand with more than 50 offices worldwide and is part of Informa PLC, UBM Malaysia takes the centre stage with several impressive events including the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2018 held in MITEC this year.

Gandhi explained, “There are important considerations for show organisers when selecting a venue and one of the key criteria for shows to expand is to have ample exhibition space in a client-focused venue. This is where MITEC comes in strong, as demonstrated during MIFF 2018”.

He also said that just in 2018, UBM has leased a total of 90,000 sqm of exhibition space the next five years, exhibitions organised by UBM is expected to grow in scale annually. Malaysia’s largest exhibition space caters to our needs, which is benefitting our visitors and attendees.

Since the Venue opened in August 2017, MITEC has housed about 90 events and accommodated major regional and international exhibitions with an increase of 110% in booth stands size. It recorded a foot traffic of 352,148 visitors, indicating its capability to cater to large exhibitions and international events.

The MITEC-UBM MoU announcement is not the first partnership by both parties. In July this year, UBM Malaysia launched its inaugural corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, Kind Malaysia 2018. It is a platform to connect corporates with civil society, in partnership with #myWorld by MITEC. The two-day event and expo which will be held from 24 – 25 October 2018 aims to highlight the importance of creating a culture of kindness within corporate set-ups and assist them with delivering various CSR initiatives.

These continuous partnerships will undoubtedly accelerate the growth for both industry players and the country’s business events sector through knowledge and skill sharing, two main pull factors when it comes to exhibitions and international events apart from the destination itself.
