The organizer is confident that runners will be impressed by the race route, Krabi charm and Sundown running signature which allow participants to enjoy running and other entertaining activities before and after the race.

Mr. Rut Jiroajvanichakorn, Managing Director of MICE & Communication reveals that the company has joined hands with Sundown, the organizer of Asia’s most popular night running event, to hold “Sundown Marathon Krabi 2018” on Saturday, 22 September in Krabi to promote sports tourism in the province. The first Sundown running event organized in Singapore in 2008 attracted large numbers of runners that have significantly increased to 21,000 runners in 2018. Sundown running series are also organised in different destinations in Asia including China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan and now Thailand is chosen as the venue of this big running event in Asia.

As a running event organizer with world-class standards, MICE is determined to organize our running events to meet international standard and to attract runners across the globe to visit Thailand as sports tourism visitors. The Sundown Marathon event in Thailand is another good opportunity for Thai runners to experience a fun and exciting running event which is the signature of Sundown. We would also like to invite Sundown fans from other countries to join the race in Thailand to experience our beautiful running course,” says Mr. Rut.

Mr. Rut adds that MICE plans to hold Sundown Marathon Thailand Series in other potential provinces across Thailand as each province can offer beautiful scenery and challenging running routes for runners. Moreover, each destination with its fascinating and different cultures will offer a memorable experience for runners. Hence, the MICE team will conduct a feasibility study on organizing Sundown Marathon in other potential provinces.

Mr. Rut says that the first Sundown Marathon Thailand Series will take place in Krabi as it is a potential tourist destination and ready to host big events with large numbers of participants. Moreover, Krabi has a unique culture, beautiful running routes along the beach and challenging landscape for runners. As a night running event, Sundown Marathon’s runners will be excited with the beautiful nature and nightlights. MICE will display local arts and culture along the route, allowing runners to enjoy the uniqueness of Krabi in the form of a festival and enjoy a concert after a long race. MICE is confident that runners will be impressed with this event while Sundown Marathon Krabi will become another unmissable running event for runners. Online registration for Sundown Marathon Krabi 2018 will open for 4,000 runners for the 12 and 21 kilometers distances on Friday, 1 June at 9 am.

Mr. Leslie Chew, Business Development Director of F4U, organizer of Sundown Marathon says Sundown Marathon is operated by HiVelocity, the organizer of Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore Triathlon. Sundown is a night running event, which allows participants a new running experience after sunset and to enjoy other great entertaining activities. Sundown Marathon was first organized in Singapore in 2008 with 6,029 runners and it attracted 21,000 runners in the latest year. Since then, the event has been organized in Malaysia, Taiwan, China, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. Sundown, the largest night running event in Asia, has attracted more and more international runners from the neighbouring countries every year. Currently, there are over 200,000 runners following up and participating in Sundown Marathon Series every year.

Mr. Leslie Chew adds that Thailand is a lively country in Asia with an appropriate landscape for running events. It has high potential for hosting a big event and handling large numbers of participants from across the world. MICE & Communication is a well-known running event organizer for its experience in organizing world-class standard running events and is widely recognized by both Thai and international runners. This year is a good opportunity to host Sundown Marathon Thailand Series which is expected to be a fun and impressive event that is certain to receive positive response from Sundown runners worldwide.

Acting Sub Lt. Apinan Puakpong, Krabi Deputy Governor says, “We are very happy to host Sundown Marathon Krabi 2018. The province is well-prepared to welcome large numbers of runners, from its transportation, food, tourist attraction sites and hotels with a total of more than 10,000 rooms. Moreover, the province has collaborated with MICE & Communication to develop the race route to facilitate runners throughout the race.”

Sports Tourism is one of the key policies which the Tourism Authority of Thailand has implemented in destinations across the country because every province can be a potential tourist destination. For tourists, each province has a unique charm in terms of food, culture, tourist attraction sites and people. The Sundown Marathon Thailand Series will introduce Thailand to a new group of tourists, runners who will get to know Thailand in a new dimension. This will promote the reputation of the country as well as boost the economy of the country,” says Krabi Deputy Governor.
