Korean Air confirmed to add Sri Lanka and Maldives Service from March 2013 and will boost its Tokyo presence.
SEOUL- Korean Air will continue to boost the number of its aircraft in its fleet, adding until the end of 2013 two more Airbus A380, one Airbus A330-200, two Boeing B777-300ER, two Boeing B737-800 as well as two freighters. The two additional Airbus A380 will join the fleet in July and October, providing additional capacities to the United States, especially to New York and Los Angeles.
The carrier confirmed that it will start on March 9 its new Seoul Incheon-Colombo-Male service. Korean Air will fly three times a week. The airline is also boosting its capacities to Tokyo Narita. From the end of March, the carrier will resume its Tokyo Narita – Honolulu service, after 24 years of service cancellation. The new route will however replace its current Tokyo Narita – Los Angeles route, which is submitted to intense competition. The new Tokyo Narita – Honolulu service will be served by an Airbus A330-300.
After securing new slots at Narita airport, Korean Air will also increase its direct operations from five to seven daily frequencies. Additional frequencies include a fifth daily service from Seoul Incheon and a second daily service from Busan, in the south of the Korean peninsula.
Among destinations benefiting from additional frequencies, Manila will been served by 21 weekly services instead of 18, starting from March 31. The additional service will be served by a mix of Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 737-800, compared to 737-800 in 2012., To the USA, the carrier will introduce a fourth weekly frequency to Las Vegas from May 5. The aircraft will be a Boeing B777-200ER.
