Khiri Travel reveals new Myanmar tours at ITB Asia

Bangkok-based tour operator Khiri Travel will promote three innovative Myanmar travel products at ITB Asia, which runs 17-19 October in Singapore this week.

BANGKOK – Khiri Myanmar general manager Edwin Briels will be at the Khiri booth in ITB Asia, to give details about riding by bicycle downhill from Heho Airport to Inle Lake, travelling by public transport (village bus and train) between Lashio, Hsipaw, Kyaukme, Pyin Oo lwin & Mandalay, and an idyllic trip to a fishing community near Ngapali Beach in western Myanmar. “The tours are for people with a spirit of adventure who want an authentic Myanmar travel experience,” said Briels.

The public bus that Khiri’s clients take in Shan State stops at villages to let people and goods on and off. The bus functions like the local postman delivering letters, packages, bags of rice, and the occasional chicken.

Day three of the trip includes a slow train journey over the mighty Gokteik viaduct which was constructed in 1901 by engineers from the Pennsylvania Steel company. It was once the second highest railway bridge in the world.

“We’ve had great feedback about our day trip to Maung Shwe fishing village in St Andrew’s Bay near Ngapali,” said Briels. “It’s a local fishing community where life stood still. We walk around the village and show you the local market, school and library. We take an oxcart ride to the beach for a boat trip to an island for some snorkelling. It’s Myanmar at its serene best,” he said.

Khiri Group CEO Willem Niemeijer and Thailand general manager Andre van der Marck will also be at ITB Asia. Van der Marck will have the latest updates and Khiri product news from Thailand including soft adventure options of trekking in northern Thailand and bicycle rides in Bangkok to discover urban villages beside canal and river.
