Japan Airlines (JAL) will introduce in-flight wi-fi services on international routes this summer

Japan Airlines will offer wi-fi technologies on board of its Tokyo-New York flight from July 15th.

TOKYO- The service, called JAL sky wi-fi, will use the broadband Ku connectivity solution eXConnect, provided by Panasonic Avionics. The service will enable passengers to connect to their personal electronic devices such as laptops and other wi-fi enabled gadgets in flight.

JAL’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be the first to be retrofitted with the service. The carrier will launch wi-fi services on flights between Tokyo’s Narita International Airport and New York’s John F Kennedy airport. The service will be available on alternate days from 15 July and daily from early August. JAL expects to deliver its latest service on flights to and from Chicago, Los Angeles and Jakarta by the end of October this year, and London, Paris and Frankfurt by next spring.

In another development, the carrier has announced some changes for the winter season. JAL has set the date for the launch of its new non-stop service between Tokyo (Narita) and San Diego as December 2, 2012, flying four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This will be a joint business service with joint business partner American Airlines. JAL will also add two more weekly round-trip flights between Tokyo (Narita) and New Delhi, making the route a daily service from October 28, 2012. To accommodate more high-yield corporate demand, JAL will change the aircraft deployed on the route to the larger 777-200ER which also offers Premium Economy service. JAL will also change the days of operations for its Tokyo (Narita)-Moscow routing, from Monday, Thursday and Saturday to Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
