ISPA 2006 Thailand International Spa & Wellness Conference and Exhibition officially closed in resounding success lauded by exhibitors, trade buyers and visitors. The event which was dubbed as the “Best ISPA Asia Pacific Event to date” was held last May 3-5, 2006 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand. It was attended by more than 312 conference delegates with the participation of about 174 exhibitors representing Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the North America.

ISPA 2006 Thailand officially opened with ceremonies held at the Grand Ballroom of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. ISPA Chairman, Ms Kate Mearns together with Mr. Peerapong Oeusoonthornwattana – Director General of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Mr. Chakkamon Phasukvanich – Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Dr. Thanet Norabhoompipat – President of the Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ISMED) of the Ministry of Industry and Mr. Pirom Simasaysien – Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports joined in the trade show opening and ribbon cutting.

Immediately after the opening, the conference sessions began with world renowned speakers and leading experts from the international spa industry. ISPA 2006 Thailand Conference proved to be a most discerning discussion of current trends and issues on the industry.

ISPA Chairman Kate Mearns presented the paper – “Identifying the Spa Traveler” while Carroll Dunham, Director for Research and Development of Wild Earth Pvt., Ltd. Nepal discussed – “Western Science & Traditional Asian Therapies: An Update on Current Mind-Body Research.”

Business topics such as “A Revolutionary Approach to Improving Effectiveness with Clients” was presented by Dr. Gary Wholman, Wohlman Wellness & Coaching (Bali) and Amber Phoenix Pty Ltd (Australia) while Mr. Steven Conquy, Chief Operating Officer of MSPA International Limited (The Minor Group), Thailand lead the plenary on “How to be a Visionary (Business Building Inspiring).”

Exhibitors like BIODROGA Systems and KLAPP from Germany and Pevonia Botanica from the UK, Chiva Som Internationals and Green Leaf from Thailand are among the long list of companies who occupied the 4,656 square meters space of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Other exhibitors were from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Jordan, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom and from the host country –Thailand.

Leading companies such as Beauty Collection International Pte Ltd, Cosmoprof International, Dermedex Pte Ltd, Goldian Trading Pte Ltd, Kzona Tooling System, Optims Asia Pte Ltd, Sansho Cosmetics International Pte Ltd, Spa Botanica Pte Ltd, The Periplus Publishing Group, and The BODHI lead the companies who conducted product presentations, sample demonstrations and first hand approach technique showcase during the 3 day trade show.

With supporting international publications like Spa Asia, Spa Life Korea, Asia Spa Hong Kong, Asia Spa India, Beauty Cosmedica, 5 Senses Malaysia, Salon News Taiwan, SISPA Korea, Spa Finder USA and its supporting organizations such as Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Commerce, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International and Federation of Thai Spas – the event has become a milestone for the Asia Pacific spa industry most especially for Thailand as it has proven its positioning as the Spa and Wellness Capital of Asia.

Thailand proved to be an important host based on the positive response from the over 120 hosted buyers who came in for the event and facilitated networking and business matchmaking with the exhibitors. A total of 79 international and local media and press representing spa, wellness, hospitality, travel, tourism and business publications came in to participate and cover the event. The 3-day event was attended by over 6,000 local and international visitors. All these attendees enveloped in them many success stories of personal encounters with peers, colleagues and experts plus closed business deals from trade visitors, buyers and more.

ISPA 2006 Thailand’s success was a result of good collaboration between the host ISMED and co-host TCEB proving that once again, Thailand is a premier hub for exhibitions and meetings in ASEAN. ISPA 2007 will be held in Shanghai, China June next year.
