Intrepid Travel, one of the world’s leading small group adventure tour operators purchased Asian Roads, the Cambodian based destination management company. Few changes are expected in terms of operation. Darrell Wade of Intrepid Travel says: Asian Roads is a perfect fit for Intrepid. We established a joint venture in Vietnam about 18 months ago and an operations company in Thailand earlier this year. Cambodia was the missing link. We carry around 4,000 travellers a year to Cambodia and it is increasingly important to have our own operational staff on the ground to ensure the quality of experience and value.

Asian Roads was an especially good fit for Intrepid as it supplies product to a considerable number of European and Asian wholesalers who we are seeking to grow our business with. We deal with some of these wholesalers, but see the acquisition as a real opportunity to broaden our horizons – just as the acquisition of Guerba was earlier this year. While Intrepid is an Australian-based company, we get around 60% of our customers from outside Australia. Acquisitions like Asian Roads accelerate our ability to supply quality product to our international clients.
