Inaugural Thailand yachting conference to be held in January

The 2024 Thailand Yachting Conference, preceding the Thailand International Boat Show in Phuket, unites industry leaders and government stakeholders to discuss growth and innovation in Asia’s yachting sector.

The Inaugural Thailand Yachting Conference (TYC) kicks off in 2024 for the Asian yachting industry. This strategic forum, being held on 10 January at the Phuket Boat Lagoon, leads into the Thailand International Boat Show (TIBS) at Royal Phuket Marina from 11–14 January 2024.

“TYC brings together an impressive line-up of local and regional industry experts along with prominent government stakeholders such as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Customs Officials,” says Conference Producer Wade Pearce, founder of the Thai Marine Guide and Singapore Marine Guide. “We are extremely thankful to have such a knowledgeable group of speakers and panellists representing various sectors within the yachting industry in Thailand and the surrounding SEA region. This, along with conference attendees from Europe, Australia, and other parts of Asia, is a very positive indication that the industry recognizes these conferences as being valuable resources for growing their businesses and enhancing professional development.”

Heading up the conference proceedings as conference MC is Wicky Sundram, the Executive Director of Phuket Boat Lagoon. Sundram is a well-known figure is the Asia leisure marine world, and welcomes the opportunity to be involved in this inaugural conference saying, “I am passionate about developing and promoting marina and yachting related developments in this region. The Phuket Boat Lagoon is proud to be the venue for this event, as we pride ourselves in being an industry leader in the boating and hospitality industry in Thailand.”

Pearce is very keen to keep the conference proceedings firmly focused on Thailand, and welcomes the involvement of key industry professionals who have at their fingertips the latest information on regulations relating to maritime law in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, marina developments in Thailand, local and international sailing regattas held in Thai waters, as well as local insights from marine businesses. We are fortunate to have top-class speakers presenting in the morning session, including Matthew Na Nagara (Port Takola Marina), Ditapong Thitadilok (Premier Shipyard), Scott Finsten (Ocean Marina), Alvin Teh (MY Yacht Support Services), and Simon James (Regattas Asia).

The afternoon panel discussions also highlight Thailand’s yachting attributes and the panellists will focus on four areas of industry growth: superyachts, charter, yachting management and safety, and sustainable technology. Experts joining these panels include Peter Mahony (Benetti), James Clayton (Simpson Superyachts), Gordon Fernandes (Asia Pacific Superyachts), Lies Sol (Northrop and Johnson Asia), Nick Longstaff (Simpson Marine), Benjamin Tabuteau (Asia Marine), Shemaine Sebastian (Galileo Maritime Academy) and Peter Jacops (Blue Peter Marine), to name a few.

David Hayes, CEO of JAND Events, the organiser of the Thailand International Boat Show says, Thailand is looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Thailand Yachting Conference and Thailand International Boat Show. These events are putting Phuket and Thailand back in the limelight, and our goal is to bring the industry together and showcase the best brands and products from the marine and lifestyle sectors, while cementing the position of Thailand, and Phuket in particular, as one of the top boating destinations in the world.”
