Important industry backing as PATA embarks on new adventure

PATA has received important backing from two influential organisations for its 2010 Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference and Mart in Nepal. The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are endorsing this important PATA event, taking place at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza in Kathmandu on 1-5 February 2010.

“The Conference and Mart will create important platforms for discussing and promoting environmental protection and social sustainability with our industry,” explains PATA Events Director Sheila Leong. “Speakers confirmed include Jose Dominic, CEO of CGH, Kerala; Naranjan Khatri, GM for Environment at ITC Welcome Group in India, and Australia-based Intrepid Travel CEO Darrell Wade. We are working with ATTA and IUCN to identify and then invite other speakers to participate in our exciting programme.”

Conference sessions include:

  • Adventure Travel: Pulse of the Adventure Traveller
  • Responsible Tourism: The Driving Force
  • Interactive Plenary Session: Adventure Sports Tourism – Risks and Responsibilities
  • Interactive Plenary Session: Zero Waste Challenge
  • Closing Session: Responsible Tourism – Making Business Sense

US-based ATTA serves as a membership organisation for companies in the adventure travel arena. ATTA president Shannon Stowell is working closely with PATA Events Director Sheila Leong on the conference programme and ATTA is to provide welcome additional support and pre-event publicity for this significant event.

IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network – a democratic membership union with more than 1,000 government and NGO member organisations, and almost 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries.

Official carrier Nepal Airlines is offering preferential fares for delegates from several Asian cities to the Nepalese capital, including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.
