Huangling Village hosts CCTV’s 2016 Fall Theatre program

This fall concert set in Huangling, an ideal destination to understand Chinese history and culture, featured 17 renowned Chinese musicians and singers as well as China Philharmonic Orchestra.

HUANGLING, China – Huangling, one of China’s most picturesque countryside villages, hosted China Central Television’s 2016 Four Seasons Theatre program on October 27, as part of the five-month China (Huangling) Shaiqiu Culture Festival.

The Four Seasons Theatre is a seasonal outdoor concert program, which stages four shows each year at different locations that best represent each season.  Shaiqiu, (pronounced shy-cho) or “crop drying in mid-air” is a Huangling folk culture that involves villagers sun-drying colorful chili pepper and corn harvests around the houses throughout the year.

This fall concert set in Huangling, an ideal destination to understand Chinese history and culture, featured 17 renowned Chinese musicians and singers as well as China Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the top 10 most influential orchestras in the world.

Violinist Huang Mengla opened the concert performing the first movement of Vivaldi’s violin concerto “Autumn”, which best represented the season of harvest.

Acclaimed folk singer Lei Jia performed the song “Unforgettable Jasmine Flower” that resonated a different kind of music memory, and world famous baritone Liao Changyong brought two different pieces to audiences, the Chinese song “Passionate Land” and Russian song “Moscow Nights”.

The concert was filmed on the main stage in Huangling as well as six other locations across Wuyuan County, including the Rainbow Bridge, Yantian old camphor tree, Houtang Mansion, terrace fields, ropeway and mountain pass and Huizhou style carving workshop, creating a harmonious scene as the music echoed in the valleys where fall harvests decorate the rooftops in vibrant colors.

“The fall concert showcased the beauty, history and culture of Huangling to local and international audiences,” said Wu Xiangyang, CEO of event organizer Wuyuan Rural Culture Development Co., Ltd. “It also gives people a chance to see the everyday life of Huangling people, and we hope more visitors will come to the village and enjoy the best of our culture in its golden season.”

The 2016 China (Huangling) Shaiqiu Culture Festival will continue the celebrations of the unique folk custom through the end of December with more activities and performances to come.
