HU Bar & Lounge showcases the best of Shanghai’s past and present

HU looks back at the past while embracing the progress and fast-paced evolution Shanghai is known for all while giving its guests towering, iconic views of the city's skyline from all around.

SHANGHAI – Le Royal Meridien announced the soft-opening of HU Bar & Lounge, Shanghai’s newest nightlife destination. Located on the 64th, 65th and 66th floors of the fashionable hotel, the bar is named for and built to reflect the past, present and future glories of its home city.

Split into three parts, HU Bar consists of an exclusive penthouse-inspired event space, a classically styled bar and a modern nightclub. The inspiration for each comes from the character of Madame Hu, a longtime resident whose own life and family personify the old and new of the city.

HU’s Penthouse + Atelier | 64th Floor
The most exclusive section of the venue is the 64th floor, HU’s Atelier and HU’s Penthouse. Inspired by the HU’s love of hosting their artistic and creative friends in their penthouse, the Atelier is a unique residential-style venue featuring stunning views of the Shanghai skyline.

Designed to reflect the chic, modern apartment in Paris where Mr. Hu lived for many years, the Atelier features a reception area, a living room, a dining room and a bar and kitchen. Each room is decorated with exquisitely selected cultural and art pieces brought over from his time in France.

Today the Atelier is perfectly suited for meetings, big unveilings, fashion show and upscale social gatherings for groups up to 100. The penthouse-style spaces are a complete rethinking of the ideal working environment for modern creative minds, who come from fields as diverse as film, design, fashion, publishing, the arts and tech. The Atelier is designed to tap the fuzziness between work and life, leveraging workplace happiness to boost creative productivity.

Classic Comfort | Hu on 65th
The 65th floor hearkens back to the storied past of the HU family and the city itself, echoing the classic comforts of the 19th century with a focus on fine wines and whiskies. This portion of the venue is all about reveling in the nostalgia of Shanghai in the 1930’s and the tremendous private luxury afforded to the rich and wealthy of that time.

Local influences will be seen throughout, with traditional touches seen everywhere from the classic cocktail bar to the jazz artists that grace the stage. The music program brings international names incorporating local twists and will serve as a platform for local live artists to showcase their work.

Also taking center stage is a live open kitchen built to serve lavish feasts inspired by Shanghai’s iconic street food culture.

Modern Edginess | Hu on 66th
The 66th floor, meanwhile, is built to represent the HU’s “wild granddaughter” and is the place to experience the best nightlife 21st-century Shanghai has to offer. Menus are stacked with Champagne selections and cutting edge cocktails, while live DJ’s, a central dance floor and modern booth seating build an always lively atmosphere.

This top floor is destined to become a home for the city’s young trendsetters, a cosmopolitan group that appreciates the finest things from all around the world. Accordingly, the space is infused with a modern edginess, incorporating fun elements like lollipop bar snacks, mobile technologies and tastefully designed LED lighting.

Another defining feature of this floor is to be the guest DJ’s from internationally renowned nightlife brands.

Le Royal Meridien Shanghai
