According to a recent survey by leading online travel agent, Netflights.com, British holidaymakers are likely to experience the best service from hotels in Europe and the USA.

The Eurozone may be in crisis but at least it can be proud of the service offered at its hotels. When asked in which countries they found hotel staff to be the most polite and helpful, 30% of British travellers found European hoteliers to be the most courteous.

Of the respondents who identified European hotel staff as the friendliest, 30% believed that Spanish hotels set the standard for service, with Turkey and Greece close behind each with 14% of the vote.

The next most hospitable were the Germans attracting 6% of the vote, followed by Italy and France with 5% and 2% respectively. Honourable mentions also went to Cyprus, Switzerland and the Netherlands, all of whose hoteliers where singled out for praise.

Outside of Europe it was the Americans who most successfully encouraged visiting Brits to “have a nice day”, with 23% of respondents finding employees of US hospitality industry to be the most welcoming. Standout cities in the US were the tourist hubs of New York and Las Vegas, both of whose hotels were identified as offering an especially warm welcome to UK visitors.

With 15% of the vote the third friendliest region for Brits travelling overseas was Asia. And countries in the South East, Thailand and Malaysia in particular, perceived as offering particularly high levels of service. There was also encouraging news for the burgeoning tourist industries of Vietnam and Cambodia, both of whose hotels received a significant number of positive mentions.

A spokesperson for Netflights.com said: “It’s encouraging if not surprising to see that travellers are receiving great service across the USA and Asia. Many of our most popular destinations such as New York, Orlando, Las Vegas and Thailand fall within these regions and they are very much geared to tourism and going the extra mile for their visitors is part of their ethos.”

With millions of visitors scheduled to arrive in the UK this summer for the 2012 Olympics, it’s perhaps encouraging that 8% of those surveyed believe that the best service on offer is right here in the UK.
