GTA signs deal with Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts as destination’s potential rises

In line with its ambition to ‘grow where the future is’, GTA is capturing the significant growth opportunity presented by Indonesia’s increasing economic power and rising popularity as a destination.

As interest in Indonesia and its destinations grows around the world, leading global travel wholesaler GTA has extended its partnership with Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts to offer more than 50 accommodation options throughout the islands. Signed today, 21 February 2013, at the Santika Premiere Hotel in Jakarta, the news will mean even more choice for businesses selling accommodation and holidays throughout the country, and bring more travellers to stay at Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts.

In line with its ambition to ‘grow where the future is’, GTA is capturing the significant growth opportunity presented by Indonesia’s increasing economic power and rising popularity as a destination. In the first 11 months of 2012, 7.28 million international tourists visited Indonesia, up 5% over the same period in the previous year.

Says Martin Jones, GTA’s Vice President for Sourcing Asia-Pacific: “GTA makes it easy for hoteliers like Santika to successfully market and sell their rooms to even more consumers worldwide. Our technology, privileged relationships and wealth of experience means travel businesses trust us to help them profit. As demand for fully independent travel (FIT) to and within the region increases, travel sellers around the world will surely welcome this new partnership and our ever-expanding portfolio of hotels throughout south-east Asia and beyond.

Signing the contract, Executive Director for Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts, Mr Lilik Oetama says: “As Indonesia prospers and attracts greater interest from home and overseas, a deeper relationship with GTA will help us encourage even more international visitors to travel here and help Santika secure its future success. Beginning with the soon to open Amaris Hotel Bugis in Singapore, this partnership is part of our strategy to expand across Australia, Hong Kong and other parts of southeast Asia.”

Established in 1981, Santika Indonesia Hotels & Resorts includes 2- to 4-star and luxury properties, ideally suiting the differing needs of fully independent travellers (FIT). Together, the brands – 3-star Hotel Santika and 4-star Premiere, the budget hotel 2-star Amaris, 5-star Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta, and the luxury boutique villas of The Royal Collection – provide a touch of uniquely Indonesian hospitality in a range of city destinations.

Already the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia is a member of the growing MIST economies – Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey – which, according to Goldman Sachs, have not been affected by the economic disappointment impacting the US, Europe and some of the BRICs themselves.

Indonesia’s growth has outperformed every major Asian economy after China, helping to raise incomes to the extent that an extra 90 million people are expected to join the middle class by 2030, doubling its current size.
