The Greek Minister of Transportation & Communications Mr. Mihalis Liapis and his Korean counterpart Mr. Yongsup Lee signed a Memorandum of Understanding linking Athens and Seoul with a direct air service. The signing ceremony took palce during Mr. Liapis’ visit in Seoul.
The flights will be three on a weekly basis and will start in the coming months, probably from January of 2008. Korean Air’s executives will visit Athens for the final details. The direct Athens-Seoul flight service is expected to increase tourism arrivals between the two countries and to strengthen their bilateral economical ties.
During their meeting the two ministers also discussed a closer cooperation in railroad transportation and decided to conduct a by-part committee to supervise the modern monitor and traffic systems, the telecommunication networks and the internet.
Mr. Liapis also visited the Operational Centre of the Korean Railroad – KORAIL where he had the chance to see the facilities.
