Genting Malaysia partners with SiteMinder’s Channel Manager

The world’s third biggest hotel – First World – is one of a family of large hotels and resorts in Malaysia that have signed with international online distributor, SiteMinder, to expand their booking presence on the web.

Giant leisure, hospitality and entertainment corporation, Genting Malaysia Berhad, which owns the 6118-room First World Hotel at the famous Resorts World Genting in the Malaysian Highlands, has partnered with channel manager, SiteMinder, to distribute a combined 10,000-room inventory to third party booking websites to generate online bookings and optimise their distribution around the world.

Dubbed the ‘Fun City Above the Clouds’ and often billed as the Las Vegas of south east Asia, Resorts World Genting is a huge, mountain-top resort complex including the two, brightly painted 28-storey towers of First World Hotel, which is ranked as the world’s third largest hotel after Moscow’s 7500-room Izmailovo Hotel and the 6582-room MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Located 55km from Kuala Lumpur and drawing 20 million visitors a year, Resorts World Genting boasts five hotels, a casino, 50 theme park rides, 100 restaurants, shopping centre, ‘mega’ stage productions, a large convention centre and a 3.4km long cable car. Resorts World Genting was voted the world’s best casino resort five times between 2005 and 2010 at the World Travel Awards.

Other Genting properties that are now using SiteMinder to distribute their rooms online are its two seaside resorts in Malaysia – Awana Porto Malai in Langkawi and Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa Resort in Terengganu.

SiteMinder’s Senior Business Development Manager for Asia, Kevin Tatem, said: “SiteMinder is proud to partner with such a large and iconic brand as Resorts World Genting and we look forward to helping Genting reach more online markets worldwide faster and easier.

“Genting properties in Malaysia will benefit enormously by automating their distribution process with two-way integration to the world’s top booking websites via The SiteMinder Channel Manager. This connection will dramatically reduce the time it takes to update live rates and availability and reduce the risk of over bookings via our unique pooled inventory model, which automatically adjusts Genting’s hotel inventory each time a booking is taken on any online channel,” Mr Tatem said.

Genting Malaysia Berhad’s Vice President/Head-Sales & Marketing, Mr Rocky Too, said: “We have so much to offer at our resorts. SiteMinder is a trusted site and with this agreement, we hope our customers will be able to make bookings efficiently and speedily. We believe in technology and with SiteMinder having what it takes in online worldwide reservation, we also hope to expand our business on a wider global market.
