Gardens by the Bay welcomes 2014 with one of attractions industry’s greatest honours

Singapore’s horticulture-themed attraction, Gardens by the Bay,will receive the prestigious Thea Awards in April 2014.

SINGAPORE – Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay has been selected as one of 13 recipients of the international Thea Awards, alongside other attractions such as Walt Disney World Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan.

Regarded as the Oscars of the attractions industry, the Thea Awards is presented by international alliance, Themed Entertainment Association. This year, Gardens by the Bay will be receiving the award at the 20th Annual Thea Awards Gala on 5 April in California, USA.

“Gardens by the Bay has been fortunate in receiving a number of local and international awards including World Building of the Year 2012, and more recently, the Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism award and President’s Design Award 2013 in Singapore, as well as the RIBA Lubetkin Prize in the United Kingdom for best new international building of 2013. While most of the awards we have garnered so far relate to design, architecture and engineering, the Thea Award honours creative excellence in the attractions and entertainment arena. It is a wonderful recognition of the team’s hard work, since opening in June 2012, in making every visit to the Gardens a delightful experience for our visitors,” said Dr Kiat W. Tan, CEO of Gardens by the Bay.

“This award is especially befitting as we kick off 2014 with a new theme for the year’s series of floral displays – ‘Gardens by the Bay Goes around the World’. After all, our aspiration has been to bring a world of plants to Singapore, and in doing so, present Singapore to the world,” added Dr Tan. “This year will be an exciting one with the opening of the Far East Organization Children’s Garden and the Sun Pavilion, as well as the co-organising of the Singapore Garden Festival with the National Parks Board for the first time at Gardens by the Bay.”

Dr Tan will be presenting Gardens by the Bay as a case study at an attractions industry forum on 4 April and receiving the Thea Award on 5 April at the Disneyland Resort in California, USA.
