From demonstrations to celebrations – Thailand is ready to welcome tourists and celebrates Thai new year

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) London office is very pleased with how quickly the recent incidents in Bangkok, over the Easter weekend, were resolved by the Thai government. The demonstrators have since been cleared from the city and life in Bangkok, for locals and visitors, has returned to normal. Songkran celebrations are in full swing in Bangkok, and across Thailand. Everyone is enjoying the Thai New Year.

Mr Tanes Petsuwan, Director of TAT London office said “I would like to express our thanks to our travel partners for their continued support to help us promote Thailand in the positive light it deserves as an amazing holiday destination.” He continued “…we hope that the news is short lived amongst the UK market and we continue to have faith in the British consumer as a resilient traveler and hope that Thailand, will once again, bounce back with little harm done.”

Following the airport closure in December 2008 TAT London put together a recovery tactical marketing campaign. Joanna Cooke, Senior Marketing and PR Executive said “We worked with over 10 tour operators, to help re-boost Thailand sales. This has proved a great success with our partners reporting increased sales since the end of December to date.” She added “…in light of recent events, TAT London will not be applying for additional budget just yet, but working closely with their media contacts to ensure ample positive press coverage.”
