Alongside Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya, Diyarbakir is also among the Free Zone Candidates. The Ministries of Health, Economy, Tourism and other shareholders, which work on the Free Zones for Health Tourism, are working under high pressure to make sure that the Free Zone Project will be taken up at the Cabinet meeting to be held in June.

During the consequent meetings, which were held last Friday and Saturday with the participation of the public and private sectors, the worldwide unique example of the Dubai Health Care City Free Zone was examined.

With respect to these works, to which also Orsakon has made contributions, Orsakon Vice Chairman Dr. Suleyman Budunoglu has stated that they spend effort to establish a Free Zone for Health Tourism also in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolian Regions.

Dr. Budunoglu, who has pointed at the importance of setting the balance between the western and eastern regions of Turkey in investments and incentives, stated in this context that Diyarbakir is most appropriate with respect to its economic and health infrastructure for patients and health tourists to come from all regional countries, foremost being Iraq, Syria and Iran.

Dr. Budunoglu, who has stated that they will, together with all the South East Anatolian shareholders, foremost being Municipalities, Universities, Development Agencies, Healthcare Providers and Chambers of Commerce and Industry, transform the subject into a Project and submit it to the Cabinet, said that from next week on they will start visiting the MPs of the region and determine strategies of common action.
