Finnair announces 13 routes to Asia in 2013

The two new routes of Finnair in the Asian region are Xi’an in China and Hanoi in Vietnam, with direct routes from Helsinki, starting in June.

Finnair expands connections with 13 fast routes to Asia in 2013. The two new routes are Xi’an in China and Hanoi in Vietnam. Not only is Finnair the first European carrier to offer direct routes from Helsinki to these fantastic Asia destinations in June, it also provides the fastest route from the UK with connecting flights from London Heathrow and Manchester Airport.

Located in central-northwest China, Xi’an is a metropolis of about 8 million people and a growing centre in the development of China’s aerospace and software industries. The city is also an ancient imperial capital and an historic cradle of Chinese civilisation. The world-famous Terracotta Army, the vast collection of burial sculptures found around the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, is located about 40 km to the east of the city centre. Finnair flights to Xi’an from Helsinki take approximately 8 hours.

Hanoi is a centre of higher education and R&D in the region and is forecasted to have the world’s fastest growing economy between the years 2008-2025 (source: PricewaterhouseCoopers). The city is also noted for its historic Old Quarter, French colonial architecture, and pilgrimage site Chua Huong, a network of Buddhist temples and shrines carved out of the limestone hills and tropical forests around Huong Mountain. Near Hanoi is Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its thousands of limestone isles. Flight time to Hanoi is approximately 10 hours from Helsinki.

Finnair has renewed their passenger experience to make the journey as smooth and comfortable as possible, allowing passengers a chance to rest comfortably as they travel across the world. Connecting through Helsinki Airport also allows a quick and easy transit as the airport is designed so departure and arrival gates are close by, allowing for fast connections in one of the most stylish airports. The airport also has multi-language signage to help travellers to transit smoothly whatever their nationality.

Finnair not only collaborates with fun Finnish brands such as “Angry Birds” and “Marimekko”, they are also one of the most sustainable airlines. Being on the forefront of sustainability this makes their new destinations even more important as Finnair fly the shortest route so this will reduce carbon emissions for travellers compared to existing carriers. Reducing carbon emissions per seat by 24 per cent by 2017 from 2009 levels is part of Finnair’s initiative to make flying greener.

Last year, Finnair became the first airline to directly connect Europe with Chongqing, another fast-growing inland megacity. Elsewhere in China, Finnair also flies to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. A further seven destinations round out Finnair’s Asian network: Bangkok, Delhi, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore and Tokyo.
