Airline launches initiatives to keep kids entertained on the plane

Family friendly flying with Jet2.com and Jettoo

Κids are taking centre stage on Jet2.com aircraft with a series of new initiatives aimed at making their flights fly by, whilst helping to raise extra funds for the famous Romanian rescue lions.

In 2010, the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, based near Doncaster, and Jet2.com, Yorkshire’s leading leisure airline, undertook a daring rescue of a pride of 13 lions from a rundown Romanian zoo and one was named ‘Jettoo’ Johnny in honour of the airline’s support. As the new official mascot for the airline, Jettoo who already has an aircraft named after him, now has his very own cuddly toy available on board, complete with separate pilot outfit to help him look the part. For every toy sold, £1 will be given to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to help fund the lion’s upkeep in their new 10 acre home, Lion Country.

In addition to the cuddly toys, a new activity pack featuring Jettoo is now available on board, with 24 pages of travel related activities including games, puzzles and colouring, complete with a pack of crayons. The specially commissioned packs were designed and supplied by Leeds-based company A Little Something Extra.

Ian Doubtfire, managing director of Jet2.com, commented: “We have enjoyed an ongoing relationship with Yorkshire Wildlife Park since the rescue of the lions last year, and we are delighted to be able to continue fundraising through the sale of our very own Jettoo soft toy. We are sure adults and kids alike will love him – especially with his smart pilot’s uniform!

“Even short flights can seem like a long time to little ones, so we wanted to introduce a few different elements to keep them entertained and well fed – which also helps mum and dad to sit back, relax and enjoy the flight! So whether it’s our in flight entertainment units, which can be hired full of games and films, activity packs or an inflight meal, there should be plenty to keep kids busy for the entire journey.”

On Jet2.com flights, children can now enjoy their very own on board meals for just £5. For morning flights, they can feast on a cooked breakfast of bacon, sausage, beans, mini hash browns and omelette, with a yoghurt and blueberry muffin. On afternoon and evening flights, everyone’s favourite sausage and mash is on the menu, which comes with snacks of a mini Kit Kat Chunky and a box of raisins.

Other new family-friendly products now available on board include an exclusive Sun Sensor watch to encourage kids to avoid overexposure to harmful UV rays, and from Speedo’s Learn to Swim range, armbands and Sea Squad Pool Packs, including goggles, bag and cap to ensure children can play safely in the water.
