EVA stays near top in world’s safest airlines rankings

AERO International tracks 60 largest carriers, rates EVA 3rd.

TAIPEI – EVA Air is staying near the top of the list of the world’s safest airlines and ranks third among the 60 largest global carriers tracked and scrutinized by the Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC) and reported by Germany’s AERO International Magazine in its February 2016 edition. Rankings are based on 2015 values. EVA also earned third-place listing in 2015 and has ranked among JACDEC’s top-10 safest airlines eight times since 2004. It ranks just behind Cathay Pacific Airways and Emirates and ahead of Qatar, Hainan and KLM on the 2016 list of the World’s Safest Airlines.

Our rankings show the significantly high level of air traffic safety around the globe. It is good to see that airlines do not content themselves with what they have already achieved but work hard and continuously to make their operational services still safer,” said AERO International Editor-in-Chief Dietmar Plath.

JACDEC is a global source of aviation safety information for companies, aviation professionals and individual travelers with a data portfolio of more than 3,500 airlines. AERO International reports civil aviation news on its website and in print editions monthly.

By keeping quality service and safety as its priorities, EVA has developed effective safety programs and upholds the highest standards.

Safety has always been EVA’s core value. It is a great honor to receive this prestigious recognition. It confirms our excellent performance as a Taiwan-based airline, serving the global community,” said EVA Chairman K.W. Chang. “But we are not going to sit on our laurels. We are working even harder now to meet the higher expectations that come with this honor. EVA Air has been dedicated to becoming a leading international airline from the beginning. We are relentless in that effort and will remain vigilant to ensuring flight safety and quality service for our passengers.

For the third year in a row, EVA has also been recognized among the world’s safest carriers in website AirlineRatings.com’s recently released rankings. EVA has not had any flight losses or fatalities since its 1991 maiden flight. It has also demonstrated zero performance defects in IATA’s Operational Safety Audits (IOSA) that have taken place every two years since 2005.

JACDEC determines annual overall rankings by comparing an index value for each airline’s accumulated operations with those of other carriers with the expectation that the basic foundation for all civil aviation is similar. JACDEC’s values:

 – Annual Revenue Passengers Kilometers (RPK) for past 30 years.
 – Fatalities,
 – Number of total losses,
 – Number of serious incidents,
 – Weighting of accidents based on how old they are,
 – Accident-free years,
 – IOSA membership and
 – Transparency of country of origin.
