BITTM, the Beijing International Travel and Tourism Market taking place 3-5 April this year, is welcoming exhibitors from across Europe. European travel agencies, tour operators and hotel groups from across the European Union are making final preparations for the show, taking place in under two months. Travel organisations from new and future EU member countries will be represented at BITTM, including Poland and Turkey.

Joanna Lisiewicz of Holiday Travel in Poland, said: We’ve been extremely satisfied with our participation at BITTM last year. It was an excellent event and enabled us to do business and help Chinese outbound tour operators to explore new partnerships. We’re delighted to be taking part again this year.

Other countries exhibiting at BITTM include Italy, Bulgaria, Malta, Switzerland and the UK. The event is running in a new hall at the NAEC, a leading exhibition centre in Beijing and is expected to attract over 300 buyers. BITTM will build on the success of the first show in 2005, where over 120 exhibitors from 31 countries attended. Exhibitors were delighted with last year’s event with 80% of them stating that the visitor quality met or surpassed their expectations.

The show is the only dedicated outbound travel event in China offering international tourism organisations the chance to meet Chinese travel professionals with a view to creating partnerships and international alliances. A panel of experts on China tourism marketing, media and tour operation will discuss hot industry topics at the show’s conference, helping the Chinese travel trade to plan their outbound travel campaigns and assisting foreign travel organisations to understand the needs of the Chinese market.

China is predicted to become the fourth most important outbound travel market. Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in China, and has recently become one of the most dynamic sectors of the Chinese economy.

Karen Taylor, BITTM Event Director, said: The European travel industry is beginning to understand the huge potential that can be unleashed by tapping into the Chinese market. With more and more countries expected to gain Approved Destination Status, BITTM provides the ideal platform for overseas organisations to network and partner with Chinese organisations.

The market opportunities for other European countries such as France and Germany are huge. Over 1 million Chinese tourists are expected to visit France by 2009. In 10 years, tourists from China are predicted to be the first or second-ranked nationality among visitors to France. With the World Cup in Germany this year, the country is expected to receive a significant boost in Chinese visitor numbers.

Over 118 countries have already signed Approved Destination Status (ADS) with China, 76 of which can already receive tourist groups. Destinations investing heavily in the Chinese marketplace include: Australia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Singapore, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.
