Eastern Airways development in Dijon creates a third domestic route

After launching its twice daily flights Dijon-Bordeaux and Dijon-Toulouse in September last year, Eastern Airways will start a new daily flight from Dijon to Nantes from 16 May 2011.

The latest development in services from Dijon by the British regional carrier will see the new Nantes service using a 29 seater Jetstream 41 aircraft operating one flight a day, except on Saturdays.

Flights from Monday to Thursday will depart from Dijon at 1130, arriving in Nantes at 1310. Services leave Nantes at 1400 landing in Dijon at 1540.

On Friday’s flights will depart at 1100 landing at 1240 with services returning at 1320 and arriving in Dijon at 1500.

Sunday services leave Dijon at 1310 arriving in Nantes at 1450 with flights returning at 1520, landing in Dijon at 1700.

The launch of this new service follows the success of Eastern Airways’ first French domestic flights from Dijon to Bordeaux and Toulouse, which have carried more than 10,000 passengers in 6 months. “We have specialised in regular domestic flights in the UK for more than 12 years,” said Chris Holliday, chief operating officer of Eastern Airways. “We have always said that the next phase of our Dijon hub development is to offer a new domestic destination. The new Nantes service demonstrates our commitment to enhance Dijon’s choice of air services and will complement our other cross-country points served. Our express service will support important and potential business traffic between the two regional capitals. We also offer a very convenient alternative for leisure customers, relatives and families and international tourists.”

“The opening of this service Nantes-Dijon inserts itself perfectly in our strategy of development, that reinforces our airline network in France”, says Francois Marie, director of the Nantes Atlantique airport. “This new destination becomes the 50th inside our network of scheduled flights and shall facilitate business and leisure exchanges between our two regions, with the vines culture as a main contributer.”

Eastern Airways first established its French hub at the Dijon Bourgogne airport in September 2010, offering the regional airport its first scheduled flights for more than 7 years. “The network of regional flights that Eastern Airways is creating from Dijon insufflates a stronger economical dynamic, in all the Burgundy region, and enables them to develop businesses and accessibility between our region and the rest of France,“ explains Daniel Lefebvre, director of the Dijon Bourgogne airport.

The economy of Nantes and the Loire-Atlantique region is dominated by services (banking, insurance, high-tech, real-estate), food, agriculture and tourism, as well as a very diversified industry sector. The city of Dijon is the capital city of Burgundy, and its industries include automobile, high-tech, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry. The region is famous for its wines, among the most famous in the world.
