Crowne Plaza Changi Airport receives third consecutive Singapore Green Hotel

These consecutive wins attest to its continued efforts in environmental management and reaffirms its position as a responsible and sustainable business and one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Singapore.

Singapore – Crowne Plaza Changi Airport has once again been recognised for its commitment towards the environment, receiving its third consecutive Singapore Green Hotel Award at the Singapore Green Hotel Award Presentation Ceremony on 25 August 2017. The biennial Singapore Green Hotel Award, which is organised by Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and supported by Building and Construction Authority (BCA), National Environment Agency (NEA) and Public Utilities Board(PUB), recognises green practices of hotels in Singapore.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport receives its first Singapore Green Hotel Award in 2013, followed by its second award in 2015. These consecutive wins attest to its continued efforts in environmental management and reaffirms its position as a responsible and sustainable business and one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Singapore.

Some of the hotel’s most notable efforts include being one of the pilot organisations in Singapore that adopted the cutting-edge food waste digester, EcoWiz, which converts food waste into water through the use of microbes which is then used to wash the bin centre, the installation of JemFlo technology in all guestrooms and staff restrooms to reduce water flow rate without affecting water pressure and guest experience, as well as working with external corporate social responsibility initiatives such as Sealed Air’s ‘Soap for Hope’ and ‘Linen for Life’ programmes, which recycle and repurpose used soaps and linen to benefit underprivileged communities around the region.

The hotel integrates sustainable approaches into its design. The facade screen was conceptualised as three-dimensional lace screens resembling orchid petals that could provide shade and texture for guestrooms and public spaces, and a sense of peace and tranquility for travellers. The naturally ventilated and lit open-air walkways and the ceiling to floor glass windows in the guestrooms, which allow natural light into the room foyer and bathroom, also help to reduce energy consumption.

Sunshine Wong, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport said, “We are honoured to receive the Singapore Green Hotel Award for the third time. We will continue to engage our stakeholders in green practices to reduce our environmental impact and introduce new ways to create meaningful and sustainable change.”

The hotel’s unrelenting drive to address environmental concerns and build a responsible business with a firm commitment to the environment has been recognised through the years. It was the first hotel in Singapore to be awarded the EarthCheck Gold Certification in 2014 and won other green accolades including the ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2014 – 2016 and 2016 – 2018, and the 3R Awards for Hotels (Distinction) in 2014 and 2016.
