Continental Airlines will inaugurate scheduled nonstop service between the United States and India, with the launch of daily flights between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and Delhi`s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Continental will be making history tomorrow by linking these two great nations with nonstop flights for the first time, said Jeff Smisek, president of Continental Airlines. The launch of our New York-Delhi nonstop service is an important addition to Continental`s significant international growth.
The nonstop flights between New York and New Delhi will be welcomed by the increasing number of travelers between the two countries and give a boost to business and tourism, said Neelam Deo, Consul General of India, New York.
The nonstop flight will cut travel time between New York and Delhi by over two and a half hours compared to current connecting service on other carriers between the two cities. Thanks to a multitude of one-stop connections via Continental`s New York hub at Liberty, travel times between most U.S. mainland cities and Delhi will also be dramatically reduced.
Delhi is the sixth trans-Atlantic route launched by Continental in 2005, consolidating its position as U.S. carrier across the Atlantic in terms of the number of cities served – 25 in 14 countries.
Continental`s Delhi flights have been conveniently timed to connect at Liberty with an extensive network of service throughout the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Continental is the only airline to operate a hub in the New York area. Continental provides exclusive immigration and customs facilities for its customers in Terminal C3, and seamless connections with more than 400 daily nonstop flights to 157 destinations throughout the world.
