Conrad Macao celebrates Hilton’s Annual Global Month of Service

This passion for hospitality drives everything Hilton teams do, creating a positive impact in communities around the world.

MACAO – Conrad Macao, Cotai Central management and team members supported Hilton Worldwide’s Global Month of Service by inviting local members of the YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) of Macau to the hotel to learn about best practice and inspire the next generation to join the hospitality industry, as well as offer inspiration and support to children in need. The event was held on Saturday, October 22nd and included a number of both fun and informative activities for 40 youngsters aged between 5-13 and their parents.

For nearly 100 years, Hilton has seen a world that can be made better through genuine hospitality. This passion for hospitality drives everything Hilton teams do, creating a positive impact in communities around the world. Conrad Macao’s efforts are a part of Hilton’s month-long celebration in October that recognises the company’s year-round commitment to serving and enriching the communities where teams live, work and travel.

“Conrad Macao’s support of local communities and guidance of the next generation in order for them to reach their full potential is a fundamental part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose philosophy,” said Bede Barry, General Manager of Conrad Macao. “If we can inspire just one of these children to live their best life then we have made an impact.”

The YMCA of Macau was established in 1994 and serves local children and their families. The association provides various social services aimed at strengthening local teenagers’ self-recognition and identity, improving their behaviour control and helping them develop a healthy personality while resisting negative peer influences.

YMCA of Macau’s Lok Tou Home (Vila Lok Tou) has offered temporary, 24-hour residential services for children and youths who cannot be adequately cared for at home since 2015, while the Community Intervention Team for Youth at Seac Pai Van (Equipa de Intervencao Comunitaria para Jovens de Seac Pai Van) was established in 2014 to provide outreach services in Coloane. Its core programmes include life planning, crisis management, drug prevention and general community support services. Management and team members from Conrad Macao welcomed YMCA members and their parents to the hotel to explain first-hand about how the hotel operates, its efforts in sustainability and recycling and much more.

“It is really inspiring for our young people to have an opportunity to see how organisations work and shows that people in the community do genuinely care. We hope that they then go on to live fulfilling lives and maybe one day get to work in the hospitality industry themselves,” said Grace Kuan, Secretary General of YMCA.

Since 2012, Hilton’s Global Month of Service has been the company’s largest annual community service initiative, mobilising hundreds of thousands of team members from all over the world to impact their local communities through a variety of volunteer projects. Hilton teams offer their time and expertise in hospitality to support issues ranging from mentoring and exposing young people to opportunities in the industry, conserving natural resources, distributing surplus food to local organisations and much more.
