A newly chartered company and the Civil Aeronautics Administration signed a contract to construct a large Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project at Taoyuan International Airport. The project, called “Taoyuan International Airport Airlines Operation Center,” spans 50 years, including three years for construction, and the remaining 47 years for operations.

In the future, China Airlines will move its Corporate Head Office and its Crew Training and Dispatch Center to the new location, where it will also operate a new world-class airport hotel. CAL anticipates its relocation to the Taoyuan International Airport area after 2009.

A newly chartered company, in which CAL will hold a 100% stake, will be responsible for the construction project on a land area of 47,747 square meters. The construction costs are estimated at NTD 4.35 billion, which includes NTD 3 billion for the Corporate Head Office and the Crew Training and Dispatch Center, and another NTD 1.35 billion for a 360-room four-star hotel. China Airlines will rent and operate the Corporate Head Office and Crew Training and Dispatch Center directly, and it will entrust an international hotel chain to manage the airport hotel.

By investing in the Taoyuan International Airport Airlines Operation Center, CAL will gain several key benefits. The newly built airport hotel will lift Taiwan’s image internationally, by providing a world-class facility and services in a convenient location. According to CAL`s executive team, by moving its headquarters to Taoyuan International Airport, China Airlines can improve its corporate image, increase market visibility, and enhance its position in the international airline industry. It can also consolidate and centralize its maintenance, flight operations and in-flight service functions into a single location.
