Despite the increasingly competitive airport business, Changi Airport continues to excel and top airport surveys worldwide. Changi Airport recently bagged three more awards for the year 2006, including the Asian Freight & Supply Chain`s `Best Airport Asia` award for the 20th consecutive year. The other two wins are an inaugural award given out by DestinAsian magazine, a luxury travel and lifestyle publication, and Business Traveller Middle East`s `Best Airport in the World` for the third time.

On 27 April 2006, Changi received the `Best Airport Asia` award at the annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards for the 20th time. This award is based on an annual survey of international shippers, airlines and cargo industry players conducted by Cargonews Asia, a Hong Kong-based cargo trade publication. Changi received the award in recognition of its efficiency and excellent infrastructure for the air cargo industry. Since 1987, when Changi first won this title, airfreight movements handled by the airport has increased from 418,000 tones in 1987 to 1.83 million tonnes in 2005.

Changi Airport also topped the charts as the `Best Airport in Asia Pacific` in the inaugural Readers` Choice Awards survey conducted by DestinAsian magazine among its readers who are seasoned business and leisure travellers. Changi earned the distinction of being `the most complete airport in the world` by readers who liked the airport for its `top-notch facilities and services` and `unmatched range of shops and restaurants`.

For the third year in a row also, Changi Airport was voted the `Best Airport in the World` in the Business Traveller Middle East Awards by readers of the Middle East edition of the Business Traveller magazine. The award was presented to Changi on 1 May 2006 in Dubai in the presence of the Arabian travel market.

Mr Wong Woon Liong, Director-General of Civil, said, There`s a Chinese saying that starting a business enterprise is tough, but keeping it going is even tougher. Likewise for Changi Airport, winning an award is an achievement, and keeping our reign on the best airport title for several consecutive years is even more commendable, but also an ongoing challenge. This would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of all airport staff, and everyone in the airport community plays an important role. I would like to attribute these awards to all members of the Changi family.

Earlier this year, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, which manages and operates Changi Airport, was voted the `Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approach to Travel Retail` at the Global Travel Retail Awards for Travel-Retail Excellence 2006 held on 10 March 2006 in London. The Awards was organised by Raven Fox, a UK-based global publisher of travel-retail for both print and online publications.
