China Airlines and its subsidiary Mandarin Airlines will work together to launch Mid-Autumn Festival charter flights to mainland China on September 30 and October 7. China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines will operate one charter each on the Taipei-Shanghai-Taipei and Taipei-Beijing-Taipei routes, for a total of four round trip flights. Passengers on China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines can use their tickets interchangeably on both airlines, and can combine scheduled flights with the charter flights.

Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A340 jets will be used for the charters. On September 30, China Airlines will use a B747-400 for the Taipei-Shanghai flights, while Mandarin Airlines will use an A340-300 jet for the Taipei-Beijing flights. On October 7, both airlines will use B747-400 jets for the charter flights. Previously, most passengers had no choice but to transfer at Hong Kong on their flights to mainland China.
