Borneo Quest: Corporate travel agents on a mission of usiness and adventure

SCB’s objective with the FAM is for international Destination Management Companies (DMC) and Event Management Company (EMC) to have an in-depth knowledge of Sarawak and its available products and services.

KUCHING – Select corporate travel agents from Singapore and West Malaysia were treated to a familiarisation trip hosted by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) with magnificent support from SILKAIR, Hilton Kuching, Cat City Holidays, CPH Travel, Amansar Travel & Tours, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and Absolute Tribal to introduce incentive programmes and meetings facilities around Kuching, Sarawak.

SCB’s objective with the FAM is for international Destination Management Companies (DMC) and Event Management Company (EMC) to have an in-depth knowledge of Sarawak and its available products and services that highlight the Land of the Hornbills as a prominent business events destination and a prospective venue for business events.

The highlight of the trip was ‘The White Rajah Theme Party – a welcome dinner within the historic walls of the Sarawak Tourism Complex; and the ‘Tribal Chef’ segment where participants experienced a day at the local market and learnt age-old traditional recipes of the many tribes of Sarawak. The trip rounded off with a ‘Gathering of Warriors’ Gala Dinner that saw participants enjoying the ngajat dance in true tribal celebration.

“We hope through this familiarisation trip to Kuching that the participants are able to promote Sarawak to their clients and always have Sarawak in mind as their top venue choice for future business events in Malaysia – a destination that offers unique cultural experiences and the adventure of a lifetime outside the meeting room,” commented Mr. Chew Chang Guan, General Manager of SCB.

Among the sites visited include, Hilton Kuching, The Junk, Sarawak River Cruise, BCCK, Sarawak Museum and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre where the group encountered the renowned ‘man of the forest’.

All in all, the trip was a great success and allowed the group to experience Sarawak’s unique offering from a business event’s perspective. The group departed back on the 11th October 2013, with a wonderful experience of Sarawak and it will definitely not be their last visit.

In conjunction with this FAM, a special package was also introduced. This package includes a specially designed corporate incentive programme in partnership with SILKAIR.

Mr Geoffrey Lee, Director of Sales commented, “By having a ready package for incentive buyers, we can then customise it according to their needs and provide a uniquely Sarawakian experience – leaving them recharged and refreshed.”

“We are pleased to have the support of SILKAIR in developing this package and hope to increase future collaborative opportunities with our Singaporean counterparts,” he added.
