Lack of payment of the passenger processing company at Dushanbe International Airport leads customers to manual check in
DUSHANBE – At Dushanbe International Airport in the capital of Tajikistan, the foreign company in charge of processing passengers has repeatedly not been paid. For this reason, the company has put the airport’s passenger processing system out of operation.
Since 23 November 2012, the entire check-in process has been carried out manually: boarding cards and luggage tags are written and affixed by hand. For flights involving stop-overs and aircraft changes, it is not possible to check in through to the destination airport.
On average, flights leave with a delay of up to three to four hours. It is not surprising, then, that the employees of the airport are often subject to verbal abuse from angry passengers.
The official stance is to wait for further developments. At one point, the airport director temporarily went missing. It is not known when the automated check-in service will be operational again.
