Back to business for Dusit

The central Bangkok outpost of the famed Thai hotel chain expects occupancy to increase after city’s State of Emergency decree lifted.

BANGKOK – The Land of Smiles beams once again as the State of Emergency, declared on 22 January 2014 for Bangkok and neighbouring provinces was lifted by the Thai Cabinet effective 19 March 2014.

Roads in and around the city’s central business district have been operating as normal since late February, but this new step by the caretaker government demonstrates a concerted effort to get the city—and country—back on its feet after months of the highly publicised political unrest that disrupted business in many of the country’s top sectors, most especially tourism.

Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand said, “While the State of Emergency caused little inconvenience to travellers to Thailand, its lifting is a sign that things are fast returning to normal in Bangkok and visitors can look forward to travelling around the Thai capital with ease, as well as to the provinces for next month’s Songkran festival.”

Ms Catherine McNabb, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Dusit International, adds, “The Bangkok Shutdown had a significant impact on occupancy levels at our landmark hotel, Dusit Thani Bangkok. We are so pleased that things are returning to normal in the capital, and this comes in good time ahead of the Songkran festival, which while fun, is also traditionally a time of cleansing, renewal and new beginnings.”
We look forward to hosting guests for the upcoming Songkran festivities here in Silom, one of the Bangkok’s top locations to celebrate this fun-filled holiday.”

The Thai New Year (Songkran) celebrations will take place between 5-20 April 2014 and Thai people across the Kingdom, and Bangkok in particular, are waiting to greet visitors with a friendly smile.
