Latest year end results from the Asia Pacific edition of the HotelBenchmark Survey by Deloitte show a marked improvement in hotel performance across the region in 2004. Asian hotels saw double-digit growth in revenue per available room (revPAR) during the year, up 25% on 2003. Given the challenges presented by events such as SARS, it is not surprising that hotel performance was up in 2004. However, what may come as a surprise is that revPAR is now almost US$10 higher than it was in 2000, the last strongest year on record. Therefore to assess how Asia is really performing the following article looks at how specific sub-regions performed in 2004 compared to 2000.
