AirAsia will finally land in Lombok

It was just a matter of time following the opening of a brand new airport on Lombok Island. AirAsia is now flying to the island, offering a direct alternative to Bali, out of Kuala Lumpur.

SEPANG– It took nine months to finally justify the opening of a brand new airport in Lombok, the largest island of the province of West Nusa Tenggara (better known as the Sunda Islands). The project was the brainchild of the young and dynamic governor of the province, Zainul Majdi.

Despite delays in the airport’s construction, the Governor remained confident that once opened, the airport would be a major asset to attract international travellers thanks to the launch of international direct flights. Until today, Lombok is only linked by a non-stop flight from Silk Air out of Singapore. With AirAsia offering from October 12th three non-stop frequencies a week from Kuala Lumpur to Lombok, the destination will enjoy additional connectivity with the rest of the world. Lombok is the 15th destination proposed by AirAsia to Indonesia. The airline is initially flying every Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with a departure at 8.45 am from KL and a return at 12.15 pm out of Lombok.

Commenting on the new development, AirAsia Berhad Commercial Director, Jasmine Lee explained that “Lombok is a hidden gem, blessed with a plethora of spectacular scenery. It can satisfy diverse holiday preferences. Outdoor lovers may embark on adventurous trips to explore the mighty Mt. Rinjani or Tropical Forest & Animal Reserve. Honeymooners will definitely find the untouched sandy beaches at Senggigi and the surrounding Gili Islands as romantic retreats.  For those who seek escapism, Lombok is a perfect spot for snorkelling and diving, with a dreamlike and picture perfect underwater world. Make this dream getaway a reality by taking advantage of our unbelievable low fares.”

In conjunction with the launch of this new and exciting Indonesian connectivity, AirAsia is offering special promotional fare to all travellers with special promotional all-in-fares out of Kuala Lumpur. Booking for the special promotional fare must be done from today until August 26 2012 for a travel period comprised between October 2012 and May 2013.

Lombok welcomed in 2011 some 360,000 international and domestic tourists but Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism hopes that the Island and its neighbours could host up to one million travellers by next year.
