77% of air travellers will take an indirect flight if it means getting a cheaper airfare, a recent survey on travel site Skyscanner, has revealed. Only 22% of users said that they would pay more to fly direct.

Further breakdown of the statistics revealed that 32% would fly indirect on long/medium haul flights but not on short haul, 22% would fly indirect on flights that had a stopover of less than four hours, and 23% actually consider a stopover a bonus, as they may get to see another city.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and director said: “One of the most popular features on Skyscanner is the ability to check indirect flight prices alongside direct routes, and mix and match flights from different carriers.  You can make big savings on flights if you’re prepared to make a stopover especially on medium or long haul routes, and some people use the connection time to get out of the airport and visit a new city.”
