With the Sustainable Tourism Criteria for India (STCI) now in place, Minister of Tourism conducted a sensitisation workshop for stakeholders to minimise carbon footprint and adhere to sustainable principles of tourism.
The driving force behind eco initiatives since the early 1990’s has been Founder & Managing Director and eco warrior, Mandip Singh Soin. An environmental expedition as early as 1989 to the North Pole was to change his path where he made an Earth pledge.
The 4th edition Ecotourism and Environment Handbook published by the Ecotourism Society of India was presented by the Minister of Tourism, Shri Shripad.

Mandip Singh Soin, President, Ecotourism Society of India and Founder & Managing Director, Ibex Expeditions said that good environment sense makes a good business sense. Remembering an expedition whereas his organisation implemented various methods for minimal impact to the environment, he said that these sustainable practices supported them to retain their clients as they are attracted to eco-friendly strategies such as kerosene lantern for giving light and many other interesting practices.
Soin stated that tour operators have to be aware about the legal actions against violating Sustainable Tourism Criteria. He opined that the Ministry needs to focus on creating maximum awareness about Sustainable Tourism principles among tourism stakeholders and revise the criteria at regular intervals.
