The state Tourism Ministry wants to establish Sarawak as a health tourism destination in the region.

We are backing this strategy by developing science and technology such as promoting the state`s bio-technology industry, Minister Datuk Seri Abang Johari Tun Openg told a news conference here.

He said the 7th Annual Scientific Conference to be held on July 9 to 11, organised by the SGH Heart Specialist Centre in collaboration with the Malaysian Medical Cardiologist Association, was one of the many activities in the right direction to achieve the objective.

Abang Johari was pleased that the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching had been recognised as one of the best heart centres in the country and could become a referral centre for foreign medical experts attending the conference.

More than 400 heart specialists from Australia, US, Spain, Japan, Italy, India and China are expected to throng Kuching City in July where the state is also staging the World Rain Forest Music Festival.
