Haikou unveils list of next must-visit attractions for global visitors

Mission Hills' projects are great examples of how business and local government can work together to bring out Haikou's uniqueness to visitors.

HAIKOU, China – The Haikou Tourism Development Commission, in cooperation with Mission Hills Group (“Mission Hills”), has released a new list of “must-see” attractions for foreign visitors to China’s “Coconut City“, Haikou. The list includes new and recently-redeveloped sites such as Youth Courtyard in the city’s Movie Town, the MH Outlets shopping center, and the Wet’n’Wild water park which are all expected to be among the city’s new most-visited sites in 2018.

“‘Mission Hills’ projects are great examples of how business and local government can work together to bring out Haikou’s uniqueness to visitors,” said Liao Xiaoping, head of the Haikou Tourism Development Commission, “We believe that Mission Hills’ new attractions will offer a marvelous experience to all who visit Haikou.”

The recommended tours of the new projects include:

  • Youth Courtyard – Located towards the end of “1942 Street” in Haikou’s Movie Town, the tourist district was jointly built by Mission Hills and acclaimed film director Feng Xiaogang, the courtyard is where two-thirds of Feng’s latest blockbuster “Youth” was filmed. With architecture inspired by the works of army art troupes, the courtyard was built to showcase China’s landscape during the 1970’s. Every brick and stone was designed to evoke nostalgia and bring visitors back to their “Youth”.
  • Haikou’s MH Outlet – Haikou’s MH Outlet shopping center, which opened in September, combines global resources with indigenous characteristics of Hainan, bringing global fashion to the Chinese island while invigorating local commerce. The mall has attracted over 100 well-known brands, both Chinese and international, including U.S. garment brand GUESS, Levi’s Jeans, Century-old British shoe brand Clarks, and more.
  • Wet’n’Wild Water Park – Wet’n’Wild water park will entertain visitors with thrill rides as well as chilled-out attractions. Located within the Mission Hills Centreville project and built by Australia’s largest theme park operator, Village Roadshow, Wet’n’Wild Haikou will begin trial operations in April 2018 to global visitors.
