Ho Chi Minh has a bond with Greece

Vietnam iconic figure of Ho Chi Minh was also in Greece as it was proved by the recent visit of Vietnam’s ambassador to Greece to the city of Edessa, that Ho Chi Minh visited on the way to the front during World War I.

ATHENS- A tour of Edessa in Greece can take travellers on the steps of Vietnam leader and hero Ho Chi Minh. This was the discovery of the first Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Vu Binh, when visiting the city of Edessa in late October last year. The Ambassador was responding to an invitation from Edessa Mayor Dimitris Giannou to mark Ohi Day on Oct. 28.

The Vietnamese revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh served with the French army during World War I and passed through the Greek city on his way to Skydra. The French army in the Macedonian front was called Armee d’Orient and was consisted of persons of different nationalities, mainly coming from French colonies, including by then Indochina.

Ambassador Vu Binh, along with Giannou, visited Tryphona Sivena, who turned 107 on Oct. 31, and who confirmed it. News247 stated that according to the responsible of culture and tourism in Edessa, Evangelos Kiriakou, the official recognition of such a renowned personality as Ho Chi Minh could lure Asian tourists.

A special tour on Edessa-Pella-Macedonia, on the steps of  Ho Chi Minh, was organized by the Cultural Tourism Office of Edessa’s Public Benefit Corporation. Shortly before his return, Binh and Giannou, symbolically planted the tree of friendship next to an extremely rare Tzinko Biloba, which was planted at that time by the French. Binh departed from Edessa promising that the same way Greece helped Vietnam in difficult moments that his country offers help to Greece.
