Skyscanner reveals the best time to book flights

The results, which follow the analysis of the last three years’ worth of data, and over 250 million prices booked, also found that the best time to book varies a great deal from destination to destination.

SINGAPORE – Global travel search company Skyscanner has released its latest findings on the best time to book flights, revealing that savvy Singaporeans who wish to increase their chances of getting the cheapest fares in 2015 should typically look at booking flights seven weeks before departure.

The results, which follow the analysis of the last three years’ worth of data, and over 250 million prices booked, also found that the best time to book varies a great deal from destination to destination. For instance, Indonesia should be booked 18 weeks in advance, while those looking a little further afield with flights to the Taiwan should consider booking 20 weeks in advance for the cheapest fares.

In order to provide clarity and make these booking decisions as simple as possible for travellers, Skyscanner has created an interactive tool which allows travellers to see when is the best time to book for the most popular destinations from Singapore, along with the cheapest bookable prices.

Pamela Knaggs, Singapore Marketing Manager at Skyscanner commented, “We know that the best time to book flights varies a great deal from airline to airline, destination to destination and even from year to year so it is not surprising that travellers find this confusing. It is therefore important to share the latest insight we have with our customers in order to give them the confidence to book and get the best prices possible for their next trip.

However Pamela also advises caution when booking close to departure, “Although for some destinations the best prices may be available just 18 weeks prior to departure, prices can be quite volatile so customers need to understand that they may be taking a gamble by leaving booking too close to their departure date.
