The President of Azerbaijan inaugurates City Sightseeing Baku

As the Azeri capital city joins the City Sightseeing international network, the company reaches 107 destinations in five continents.

BAKU – The world’s leading open top bus tour company enriches its brand connection between Europe and Asia, where already operates Moscow and Kazan in Russia and Tbilisi in Georgia.

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Minister of Tourism & Culture Abulfas Garayev together with the Director of Baku Tourism Information Centre Zakir Aliyev and the President and CEO of City Sightseeing Worldwide Enrique Ybarra have inaugurated City Sightseeing Baku, the 107th destination of the company’s international network of cities. With this new addition, the world’s leading open top bus tour operator expands its presence between Europe and Asia, where it is already present in the cities of Moscow and Kazan in Russia, and Tbilisi in Georgia.

City Sightseeing Baku shows travellers the main attractions of the capital of Azerbaijan, a destination that offers tremendous contrast between tradition and modernity. Strategically located between Asia and Europe, the Caucasus Mountains and the Caspian Sea, Baku has a beautiful old Inner city inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the Shirvanshah’s Palace and Maiden Tower. On the other hand, the skyline of the Azerbaijani capital resembles other destinations with great economic strength such as Dubai or Singapore.

The new Baku city tour lasts 75 minutes and allows visitors to experience the city’s key sights and attractions along  the route and with 15 stops, it is possible to hop on and off at your own pace during the 24 hour valid ticket. With a frequency of 30 minutes, the iconic City Sightseeing red buses operate daily from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm in low season, and until 10:30 pm in high season, offering interesting commentary in Azerbaijani, English, French, German, Farsi, Spanish, Russian and Japanese.

Speaking about the new tour, Enrique Ybarra said: “The first City Sightseeing branded tour was launched on 31 March 1999. 15 years have passed and it is amazing how the brand has evolved up to be present in more than one hundred cities on five continents, including the major capitals of the world and such exotic locations Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. We are very pleased to continue to grow and add value to our international network of cities.”

The City Sightseeing Baku project has been made ??possible by a joint venture to 50 percent with the Federal Government of Azerbaijan through the Ministry of Tourism. In the words of President Ilham Aliyev, the arrival of City Sightseeing connects with other large-scale projects for the country as the completion of the new Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the construction of the Olympic Stadium in Baku to host the 2015 European Games and the new Formula 1 street circuit that will join the competition in 2016.
