TAT to organise Street Food Makeover Festival 2016

Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event is designed to further popularise the consumption of delicious Thai street food amongst visitors by helping roadside vendors improve both the quality of the food as well as the design of their stalls.

BANGKOK – The “Thailand Stylish Street Food Makeover Festival” will be held from 26-28 February, 2016, at the CentralWorld shopping complex in Bangkok.

Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event is designed to further popularise the consumption of delicious Thai street food amongst visitors by helping roadside vendors improve both the quality of the food as well as the design of their stalls.

The Festival will feature the 30 most creative street foods in Bangkok including Phat Thai, Lap Ramen Burger, sticky rice, grilled pork, etc. Prizes will also be presented to winners of a street food makeover contest.

The event is also being supported by the Thailand Creative and Design Centre (TCDC), Scrap Lab, the design and research centre of Kasetsart University, the Thailand Chefs Association and SCG Packaging Co., Ltd.

Mr. Wiboon Nimitrwanich, TAT’s Executive Director of Tourism Investment, said, “The Thailand Stylish Street Food Makeover Festival 2016 consists of core activities; such as, the street food makeover and street stall makeover contests. TAT has invited higher education institutions to submit interesting ideas and design concepts to make street food more appealing.

He added, “Thai street food has always been popular amongst visitors, especially the adventurous young backpackers on tight budgets. We have also organised a special competition called “Shoot and Share” that invites visitors to share their photos of the various kinds of street food across their social media networks, and become eligible to win prizes from the sponsors”.

Thai street food is known to be delicious, hygienic and inexpensive. Increasing its popularity and attractiveness amongst visitors will meet the overall national tourism development strategy by channeling more tourism earnings to people at the grassroots of society.
