Tasmania a strong competitor for nature loving visitors

The Three Capes Track was a significant development idea to create a second 'iconic' walk in Tasmania off the ever-increasing demand for visitors to experience the Cradle Mountain Walk, said ATEC Managing Director, Felicia Mariani.

The staged opening of Tasman Peninsula project’s Three Capes Track will broaden Australia’s wilderness offering – enhancing one of the key elements that makes the country attractive and competitive in the international visitor market.

“In a highly commercialised and increasingly homogenous global tourism offering, these special areas have the unique ability to set Australia apart from the competition,” ATEC Managing Director, Felicia Mariani said from Hobart.

“The Three Capes Track was a significant development idea to create a second ‘iconic’ walk in Tasmania off the ever-increasing demand for visitors to experience the Cradle Mountain Walk.

“Tasmania is to be congratulated on taking the steps necessary to bring this concept one step closer to reality. They have long led the way in sharing the State’s pristine wilderness with visitors and locals alike. This initiative steps them back into pole position.”

Ms Mariani said the announcement of the staged opening of the Three Capes Track puts Tasmania well ahead of other states and will help to establish it as a strong global competitor for visitors looking to access unique, nature based experiences.

“While other states are grappling with how to approach this issue and attract investors, Tasmania is pushing forward to establish yet another iconic walk that will attract the fascination and attention of experience seekers around the world.

“These areas must of course be managed sensitively, but opening them to a broader base of visitors educates more people to the importance of these pristine areas and creates an investment to ensure their sustainability.

“This announcement, off the back of the Victorian Government’s moves last week to open up more national parks to tourism opportunities, presents an important trend to recognise the vital role of our natural assets in engaging with consumers globally.”
