GVB hosts Korea – Guam Tourism Council Meeting in Seoul

The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) hosted the Guam-Korea Tourism Council (KGTC) meeting on September 30, 2011 in Seoul, Korea.

GVB Board Director and GVB Korea Marketing Committee Chairman N. Oscar Miyashita, GVB Marketing Manager Pilar Laguana, and GVB Korea Marketing Officer Felix Reyes, joined KGTC Chairman Ki-Chung Hong and the KGTC members to discuss how to increase Korea-Guam visitor arrivals, seat capacity, and market share while maintaining high load factors. The KGTC is comprised of the senior level executives of the top Korean travel agencies.

As part of the meeting, top Korean travel trade media interviewed the Guam delegation and the KGTC members. They were primarily interested in how Guam was able to quickly recover its Korean arrivals after the triple Japan disaster in March 2011, success of “Stubborn Lady” TV show filming on Guam, and next year’s priorities for GVB in Korea.

“With the implementation of an ESTA line at the Guam airport, we are now more motivated to sell Guam as we know the time spent at the airport during arrival will be much shorter,” said KGTC Chairman Hong.

“Chairman Miyashita’s visit to Korea at this critical time is very important since it brings credibility to our efforts to promote Guam to our number-two market,” said Joann Camacho, GVB General Manager. “Korea remains one of our top priorities in our overseas marketing plan to provide diversity to our market sources as global challenges plague international travel,” she added.

The delegation also had productive meetings with the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Korea, the U.S. Commercial Service Korea, Association of National Tourist Offices Representatives (ANTOR), the Korea-Guam Marketing Committee, and various travel trade organizations as well as select airlines to solicit interest in Guam travel.
