Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) donates $100,000 to American Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Relief

Individual cruise lines also provide extensive support to Philippines-related aid.

MIAMI – The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) announced it is providing a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross for its Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the devastating and tragic storm in the Philippines, which is the home country of so many cruise line crew members,” CLIA CEO Christine Duffy said.

The American Red Cross, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education. It has set up a Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund to respond to the tragedy in the Philippines. When responding overseas, the American Red Cross works closely with the affected Red Cross society who serves as the lead to provide the level of staff support and assistance requested. The American Red Cross is also helping to reconnect families separated by this typhoon and has activated its family tracing services.

Individual cruise lines around the world, including Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited, Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Corporation & plc, Crystal Cruises, and Paul Gauguin Cruises, have contributed more than $2,237,500 to Philippines relief efforts.

Global cruise lines are also providing support to crew members affected by the typhoon, such as assistance contacting their families by phone or email, or arranging travel to return home if necessary. They have set up relief funds for Filipino crewmembers with donations from crewmembers and guests, donated cruises to auctions for relief efforts, and set up contribution match programs.
