An inaugural electronic entertainment expo to be held in Perth in March-April this year is expected to attract many interstate and overseas delegates and inject more than $4.55 million into the WA economy, according to Perth Convention Bureau Executive Chairman Graham Muir.

Known as GO3, the expo will be held over three days at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and showcase the latest in interactive gaming, technology and electronic entertainment.

“This is a wonderful coup for Western Australia as it places Perth at the forefront of the massive electronic games industry,” Mr Muir said. “The organisers are committed to making the expo an annual event so WA will reap the benefits for many years to come.”

Mr Muir said that financial support from the $1 million convention bid fund that the State Government had created last year had enabled the Bureau to secure G03 for WA. The Government funding is contingent on the private sector contributing a further $500,000.

“The fund was created to attract large conferences and since being launched in June last year it has resulted in the Bureau securing eight meetings representing an estimated 13,000 delegates and a $25.79 million delegate spend,” he said.

“Additionally, the Bureau is awaiting decisions of a further two meetings that have the potential to attract 1,490 delegates and generate around $1.92 million in direct delegate expenditure.”

There are three elements to the G03 expo – an international conference which is expected to attract more than 1,800 national and international delegates; a consumer show featuring all the latest interactive electronic games and gadgetry; and the Australian leg of the global electronic game competition, E-Sport World Cup.

The organisers are anticipating more than 30,000 visitors to the consumer show, which is open to the public on March 31 and April 1 and will feature 100 exhibitors displaying new games and technologies from around the world.

Mr Muir added that a massive media contingent from America, Europe, Asia and Australia has registered to cover the expo. MTV Japan has signed up as the official media partner and will film and report on the event.

“The global media exposure that the event receives will help to place Perth at the forefront of the electronic gaming world with the associated benefits that this generates across our tourism, business and trading sectors,” he said.
