Tiger Airways responds to overwhelming demand on “fastest growing” Australian domestic route

Australia’s fare airline, Tiger Airways, is turning up the heat on the “hottest air link in the country” with revised flight times on the popular Melbourne – Cairns route on sale (by or before Monday 04 July 2011) to cater for growing demand.

rom mid July, Tiger Airways flights between Melbourne and Cairns will depart daily from Melbourne Airport Tullamarine at 1:50pm and return from Cairns Airport at 5:45pm (instead of the current night flight times which depart Melbourne at 10:05pm and Cairns at 2:00am daily).

Tiger Airways Head of Marketing and Communications, Vanessa Regan, said that recent Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) figures have highlighted that the Melbourne to Cairns route is the ‘fastest growing’ in Australia, with 29% passenger growth (year on year from April 2010 to April 2011). As such Tiger’s new daytime flights are in response to increased demand for its famous low fares.

“We’re an airline that is highly responsive to customer demand and we’re confident that our new daytime services will prove to be more convenient and extremely popular, especially since they are available just in time for the tropical north’s peak spring season when many Melbournians are looking for a warm winter escape from the cold,” said Ms Regan. “Tiger Airways consistently sells fares on the Melbourne – Cairns route for less than $100 each way, which is around 50% cheaper than our nearest competitor. No other airline can sustain airfares as low as Tiger.”

Tiger Airways commenced daily return services on the Melbourne – Cairns route in September 2010, bringing around 130,000 visitor seats through Cairns Airport and Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) annually. The new flight times on the Melbourne – Cairns route is one of a number of network changes being rolled out across Australia over the coming weeks, as the airline optimises its flying programme to cater for demand and improve punctuality.

Ms Regan urges people wanting to seek the most affordable domestic airfares to sign up to the eNewsletter on the website homepage to keep informed about latest news and sales information directly from Tiger Airways.

“The secret to securing the cheapest fares with Tiger is to book early and fly cheaper,” she says.
