University of South Australia recognised for its contribution in tourism

International recognition of the Centre for Tourism & Leisure Management (CTLM), University of South Australia, for its quality contribution in tourism education and research .

The Centre for Tourism & Leisure Management (CTLM) of the University of South Australia (UniSA) continuous to grow its research and educational outcomes and this has been now recognised internationally.

The UniSA received a 5 Star rating for ‘Hospitality and Leisure Management’ in the 2018 QS world assessment. According to QS world rankings, the UniSA is included within the top international universities for “Hospitality & Leisure Management’ ( based on criteria such as the QS academic and employer reputation, research publications and impact of academic/research staff.

The CTLM (UniSA) has also been awarded with the “Best IFITTTalk award” for a second year in a raw for successfully organizing two IFITTTalk workshops on the topics of Digital Marketing in Tourism and Smart Tourism Services and Smart Destinations in 2017 ( The “Best IFITTTalk award” is awarded by the International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism (IFITT) to organisers of IFITTTalk that achieve excellence in the following criteria: quality and number of speakers; event attendance; participants’ satisfaction with the event; and development of training/educational material.

The CTLM is planning more workshops and industry engagements events in 2018 in cooperation with industry partners and tourism / hospitality research associations such as the South Australia Tourism Industry council (SATIC), CAUTHE and IFITT.

Recently, CTLM also conducted a survey investigating the use and impact of social media on festivalgoers’ experiences by collecting data from patrons attending the WOMADelaide Festival. This survey represents cutting edge research on the topical debates about the impact of the (addicted) use of social media on tourists’ experiences, understandings of destinations and participation in leisure activities. The findings will also provide useful guidelines to festival organisers and policy makers alike on how to best exploit social media within a festival context and how to promote a more mindful use of social media that can contribute to the psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing of tourists. The survey was conducted with the support of Arts Projects Australia – the organizing body of WOMADelaide – and the help of Nicola Prime (Marketing Manager, Arts Projects Australia) is much appreciated.
